SDAFA presented the following resolution at the AFT Guid Meeting on October 5, 2017:

Resolution to Adjust the AFT Guild Bargaining Committee for the SDCCD Faculty CBA to Be More Representative of and Open to the Membership

Whereas the motto of the AFT Guild is “An Open, Active, Vital, Membership-Driven
Organization”;

Whereas of the approximately 3000 faculty in the SDCCD, approximately 700 are
full-time and 2300 are adjunct making the composition of the faculty
approximately 25% full-time and 75% adjunct;

Whereas Unity and Equity are strengthened when the composition of the Bargaining
Committee reflects the membership; and

Whereas the democratic principles of the AFT call for open communication between
members and all union committees including the bargaining committee;
therefore, we, as adjunct members of the Guild,

Request that the AFT Guild Executive Council:

1. make the Bargaining Committee membership proportional to the Guild
membership;

2. make an open call for rank-and-file members to serve on the Bargaining
Committee

3. post the bargaining survey results on the Union website;

4. send regular specific updates on bargaining to the membership;

5. schedule open drop-ins where Guild members can meet face-to-face with the
bargaining committee; and

6. set a full meeting where concessions can be debated before the all-or-nothing
vote.

Jim Mahler tried to prevent it from coming to the floor, when voting finally took place, not a single Executive Board member voted for it. The minutes contained no mention of it.
