Another survey, this one from ASCCC – Academic Senates for the California Community Colleges about OER. Did you get the email? I will attempt to post the entire email here, and what I especially care about is the survey at the end:
Greetings!
1. The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) Open Educational Resources Initiative (OERI) is an ASCCC initiative that has five initial years of funding. Primary goals of the OERI are to increase student success and address educational inequities by increasing the availability of open educational resources (OER) and adoption of OER text-equivalents by California community college (CCC) faculty. In order to contribute to the available OER, the OERI will fund the development of resources by CCC faculty that address identified gaps in currently available OER. All products completed with these funds must be licensed as CC-BY or CC-BY-NC (please see https://creativecommons.org/licenses/ for details about these Creative Commons licenses). Individual faculty or teams of faculty may apply.
The goal of this funding opportunity is to increase the adoption of open educational resources in the California community colleges by increasing the availability and adoptability of OER text-equivalents. “Adoptability” may be increased through the modification of existing resources or the development of ancillaries.
This initial OER development funding opportunity is explicitly designed for projects of a limited scope that can be completed in a short period of time. The OERI anticipates funding projects with a broader scope and a longer duration in the future.
The narrative elements of this application should be prepared in a word processing program and submitted in the space provided. The proposal template is available as a Word document to permit you to compile all necessary information and prepare all narrative responses. Please find the Proposal Evaluation Rubric that will be used to guide the scoring of applications at the end of the Request for Proposals.
Applications are due May 30, 2019 at 5 pm PST. Late applications will not be accepted and incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
This application is available at: https://tinyurl.com/ASCCC-OERI-May2019App.
2. The ASCCC formally launched its OER Initiative (OERI) in the spring 2019 term. The ASCCC OERI received funding via a trailer bill during the last budget cycle and proposed that the ASCCC would create an initiative that serves to:
● coordinate OER activities in the CCCs, including content curation, review, modification, and development;
● engage in ancillary resource curation and development; and
● provide support to address copyright, accessibility, technical, and other related issues (e.g., print on demand).
In an effort to prioritize the OER work, there is a need to determine what OER is currently in use in our system and what the perceived needs are. In order to approach this in a manageable way, we are piloting information collection from select disciplines. It is our goal to gather as much general and specific information from faculty in the identified disciplines as possible. If you are in any of these disciplines, we look forward to your participation. If you are not, please share this with all appropriate faculty.
The ASCCC OER Task Force would appreciate if you could spend a few minutes of your time completing a survey designed to inform our work. Please complete the survey by May 31, 2019.
At the present time, we are gathering information via the links below from faculty teaching courses in the following disciplines:
1. Accounting
2. Art History/Studio Arts
3. Biology
4. Business
5. Economics
6. Geography
7. History
8. Nursing
9. Office Technology/Business Information Worker
10. Political Science
Thank you for your time, it is greatly appreciated.
