SDAFA wholeheartedly supports the democratic process and true union spirit of all of the community college unions of San Diego county which include the AFT Guild 1931, the Mira Costa College Academic Associate Faculty, the Palomar Faculty Federation, and the Southwestern College Education Association.
Two years ago, SDAFA discussed the potential impact of the Friedrichs vs CTA case on our unions and pleaded with the leadership to prepare by making themselves more relevant to the majority of the membership.
This year we met on April 27 to discuss Janus and its impacts on unions with regards to their adjunct members. Although we are frustrated by the lack of representation, SDAFA has decided unanimously to promote membership in our unions, to pay dues, and to work even harder to make our San Diego unions more open and democratic.
