#UnrigTheSystem

On Saturday, February 24, SDAFA joined with thousands of working people and their allies gathered at rallies across the country to demand an end to a system and an economy that’s rigged against us by the wealthy and powerful.  The local rally was held at Convention Center Park in San Diego.

The main purpose of the rally was to bring awareness to the Janus v. AFSCME case, which challenges the constitutionality of  “fair share” or “agency” fees that cover the union’s costs to negotiate a contract that applies to all public employees, including those who are not union members.  See Senator Elizabeth Warren’s tweet below for more information on the implications of this case.  The Supreme Court will hear oral argument beginning Monday, February 26.

SDAFA fully supports “fair share” fees, which ensure that unions have enough capital to operate effectively to bargain fair contracts and enforce them.  we are also dedicated to promoting professional treatment, economic welfare, and equitable rights of adjunct faculty and their students.  To that end, SDAFA handed out flyers and talked to attendees about 2 issues currently affecting adjuncts who are/were employees in the SDCCD and members of AFT Guild Local 1931.  See our flyers below.
